Established in 2023, the Howard and Hazel Weting Preserve is CWC’s first preserve in Clare County. This 80-acre parcel protects important natural space and wildlife habitat in the Muskegon River Watershed. The property includes thousands of red pine that were planted by the Weting family beginning in the 1930. Recent harvest of both pines and native hardwoods has resulted in a mixed age forest of pine, oak, aspen, and maple suitable for a wide variety of wildlife including deer, wild turkey, ruffed grouse, and more.
Weting Preserve is located on W Monroe Road in Freeman Township. Monroe Road as it fronts the preserve is a seasonally maintained road.
PLEASE NOTE: Hunting is permitted on Weting Preserve. Hunting Regulations for Weting Preserve can be found here.
