Established in 2018, this 3.4 acre parcel is located along the Chippewa River in Chippewa Township, Isabella County. The preserve was purchased by the grandson of late Midland County residents Stephen and Agnes Szok and donated to the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy in their honor. The preserve protects approximately 900 feet of wooded riverbank.
The Szok Riverbend Preserve was gifted to the CWC with the intent that it become a public river access site. With construction completed in 2021, this site provides the only formal public access site along a 24 mile stretch of river between Island Park in Mt. Pleasant and Geneva Rd. in Midland County, opening up a previously inaccessible stretch of the Chippewa River to paddle-sports enthusiasts and anglers.
