SUMMARY:Bundy Hill Preserve Dedication
DESCRIPTION:Historic Bundy Hill is one of our newest preserves\, possibly the grandest at 100 acres of glacial moraine and the highest point in the county. In celebration\, the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy and the Remus Area Historical Society are partnering with Mount Pleasant area businesses such as Motorless Motion\, and Art Reach of Mid Michigan\, to join in commemorating this beloved treasure of community history with special storefront and museum exhibits. Topping off this summertime historic display is a Grand Community Celebration held Saturday\, August 19 from 3 p.m. to Sunset at Bundy Hill Preserve. This community celebration includes a commemorative music event featuring the Bundy Hill Jamboree theme song\, with thanks to the Wheatland Music Organization; PitaPit food and drink available for purchase onsite\, and naturalist-led explorations of the hillsides of Bundy at 3\, 4 and 5 p.m. The official Dedication Ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. Bring your own lawn chairs for seating. Represented are the Remus Area Historical Society with a tabletop informational display\, and your hosts\, the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy will feature information about all 22 preserves and how we make it all happen\, thanks to you. In glorious conclusion\, a Sunset hike to “Watch from the Top” begins at 8 p.m. from the trailhead. We dedicate Bundy Hill Preserve to the community\, as one of the CWC’s newest and largest nature preserves. We want to thank everyone who made this preserve possible. \nPlease RSVP by emailing cwc@chippewawatershedconservancy.org \n  \nShareEmailTwitterFacebookRedditTumblrPinterestLinkedIn

SUMMARY:"Under the Wolf Moon" at Sylvan Solace
DESCRIPTION:The waning moon will still feature plenty of light for a lovely evening ski under the moonlight. If you have headlamps\, you may certainly wear them. The trail is simple and navigates easily in the dark\, but if the timing is right\, we should see shadows and outlines once our eyes adjust. If the weather does not cooperate with a winter coating\, plan on walking the trail for a nighttime adventure looking for eye shine and listening for the sounds and sights of nocturnal animals on the move. We’ll end the evening with a tailgate warm-up in the parking area. From Mount Pleasant\, Sylvan Solace Preserve is located on the south side of W. Pickard Road between S. Gilmore and S. Littlefield Roads. \n[huge_it_forms id=”9″]\nShareEmailTwitterFacebookRedditTumblrPinterestLinkedIn

SUMMARY:Geology at Sylvan Solace
DESCRIPTION:Even a relatively flat area such as Sylvan Solace Preserve can yield interesting facts about the pre-settlement history of the land. Is it glacial outwash? Is it a glacial end moraine remnant? What is the makeup of the rocks? Are they commonly found in this part of the State\, or were they brought from the Canadian Shield country far to the north by glacial activity? Can you see evidence of old stream flows that no longer exist? What can we learn from the river or river banks? Join us for a walk with Isabella Soil Conservation District Environmental Educator Mike LeValley and hear his take on the evidence at Sylvan Solace. This will be a leisurely walk around the preserve to see what clues are out there. We will meet at the Sylvan Solace parking lot off Pickard Road. \nError: Contact form not found. \nShareEmailTwitterFacebookRedditTumblrPinterestLinkedIn
