SUMMARY:Preserve Stewardship Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Interested in becoming more involved with the CWC? \nIf you visit one of our preserves on a regular basis\, you might be a good candidate to become a Preserve Steward!\nStewards do many things. At a minimum\, Stewards visit preserves frequently\, make note of any problems (and fixing the problems when they can)\, and report back to CWC staff. Stewards also complete annual monitoring reports for their assigned preserve. Within their capabilities\, Stewards can tackle tasks such as tree trimming\, trail maintenance\, and invasive species removal. During scheduled work sessions\, stewards may be asked to take charge of additional volunteers or even coordinate volunteers. \nIf this sounds like something you’re interested in\, please join us on Saturday\, November 8th at 9:00am at the CWC offices at 306 S. University Ave. in Mt. Pleasant. We’ll start in the office and then move out to a preserve for some hands on training. Registration is required to attend. \nPlease call (989) 772-5777 to register. DESCRIPTION:It’s been a while since we gave a tour of our 17-acre Mill Pond Natural Area – Walter & France Bolle Preserve! \nThe last tour was in January of last year and a lot has happened since then. Over the past 22 months\, CWC staff and volunteers have continued the hard work of restoring the property. We’ve removed thousands more invasive trees and shrubs\, planted hundreds of native trees\, and the native grass and wildflower seeds that we planted in 2023 and 2024 have taken root. We think it’s time to show off the progress and talk about the future of the property! \nJoin us on Sunday\, November 2nd at 2:00 PM for a walking tour of the CWC’s only urban preserve. \nMill Pond Natural Area is located adjacent to Chipp-A-Waters Park (1403 W. High Street\, Mt. DESCRIPTION:Join the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy on Thursday\, October 2\, 2025\, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm for an evening of food\, drinks\, an art show\, and fundraising drawings to celebrate and support our mission! \nOne of the highlights of the event will be the annual presentation of the Bob Ball Award (President’s Award) to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the CWC’s mission.  CWC Executive Director Mike LeValley will also give an update on past and current CWC projects. \nThe 2025 Fall Fundraiser will be held at the beautiful Little Flower Barn in Lake Isabella ( a stone’s throw from Bundy Hill and Sylvan Solace Preserves) and will support the annual operating expenses of CWC\, including our current projects\, preserve stewardship\, and educational programs. \nGuests can enjoy the gorgeous grounds\, backing up to The Pines golf course and including a serene pond and lush gardens\, or enjoy the indoor atmosphere in the large venue barn. An art show featuring the work of CWC’s resident artists and socializing will make for a fun-filled night. SUMMARY:Summer Wildflower Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, August 9th from 1:00PM to 3:00PM for a hike at one of the CWC’s underappreciated preserves. Much of the 79-acre Peterson Natural Area is composed of open fields that are perfect for summer wildflowers. We’ll find different species of wildflowers in the wet meadow along the creek that bisects the preserve and in the dry sandy hillsides and swamp near the back of the preserve. Expect to see lots of butterflies and other pollinators! \nAs there are no trails throughout most of the preserve\, long pants are recommended. \nPeterson Natural Area is located near Big Rapids on the corner of 180th avenue and 11 Mile Road. SUMMARY:Hickory Hill Easement Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour of one of our favorite conservation easements! \nHickory Hill Easement is located in Clare County\, northwest of the Village of Farwell along M-115. The property encompasses more than 500 acres of mostly forested land and includes a lake in its center. This property was once owned by local lumberman Josiah Littlefield and has remained in the possession of his descendants for over 100 years. \nThe CWC currently works with individual landowners to protect the conservation values of 46 privately-owned properties through conservation easements. because these properties are privately-owned\, they are rarely open to the public. As part of the celebration of our 40th year\, we have arranged with a couple of our easement landowners to showcase these properties to the public. \nBecause this walk is taking place on private property\, we are limiting it to no more than 20 participants. This turns into Ashard Rd follow the curve (North or Right) to continue on Grass Lake Ave. When that curves to the East take an immediate Left turn (West) on East Norway Ave\, follow this until you come to Monroe Rd. Turn East (or Right) on Monroe and continue straight on the seasonal dirt road. You will see a two-track to the right\, DO NOT take that.
