Preserve Steward and Easement Monitor Workshop

March 26, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

As part of our due diligence, we regularly visit each and every property we own to ensure that it is safe for visitors, that nothing illegal or unpermitted is happening, and that we know what kinds of stewardship activities (trail maintenance, trash pickup, sign repair, invasive species removal, etc.) need to be performed. With a minimum of staff resources, and nineteen preserves to monitor, we rely heavily on volunteers to help us keep “eyes and ears” on the land. About every three years we offer a stewardship training workshop, and it’s that time again. If you are currently a preserve steward, or if you are interested in becoming one, we ask you to sign up for this periodic training.

This year we are expanding by offering the potential opportunity to become a conservation easement monitor. We are required at least once every year, to visit each of the 34 conservation easements we hold to ensure that the terms of the easement are still being met. This is a unique opportunity to visit natural space that is not open to the general public. But it also requires a special sensitivity to landowner contacts. Depending on the level of interest, we will be creating a roster of possible easement monitors and matching volunteers up with easements for further training.

This training will take place at the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy offices and Mount Pleasant Area Community Foundation conference room, 306 South University Ave., Mount Pleasant.

Thank you to our friends at Pisanello’s Pizza for providing lunch!

Please register no later than Monday, March 21st.
