Plein Air Guided Painting with Tina Vivian at Sylvan Solace Preserve

June 7 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Join us on June 7th from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Sylvan Solace Preserve for a plein air class hosted by local artist Tina Vivian.
Tina Vivian is a 1998 graduate of Central Michigan University, where she received her MFA in Printmaking. Since retiring from Alma College, where she served as the costumer for the Theater and Dance Department, she has been enjoying plein air painting any chance she gets.
This summer she will once again be painting at Leland Air, The Glen Arbor Paint Out and the Gene Krantz Paint Out in Northport.
She paints regularly with the Great Lakes Plein Air Painters and The Old Art Building Plein Air Painters, Leland. If you see her on the trail. Stop and say “hi.”
Bring your preferred medium and a sack lunch as we settle in for a guided art experience. Please aware that there are no facilities on the preserve. This event is free and open to all levels of experience, be sure to come with an open mind and sense of adventure.
Suggested Supply List:
There are slight variations for different media. In general, use the minimum number of supplies since you will be carrying them to the painting location.
Acrylic:
Paint – Cobalt, Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Light, Hansa Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Dark and Titanium White.
Plastic cup for water
Small bottle of water
Paper towels and/or rags
Collapsible travel easel or lap board
Canvas coated panels – 5×7 to 9×12 (two or three panels)
Brushes – several sizes short-handled brushes, ¾”, ½” flats and rounds and any others that you like
Pocket sketchbook, pencil or charcoal pencil for thumbnail sketches
An apron with pockets
Sunscreen
Bug Spray
Hat with visor or wide brim
Camp chair
Backpack or shoulder bag for carrying supplies
We also suggest wearing good hiking shoes/boots, socks and long pants. A long- sleeved shirt with sun guard protection may be helpful (they can be found in most sporting departments). A jacket or sweatshirt is also good for cooler weather. An all-weather jacket just in case is good to have also.
Adapt this list for the medium you will be using. The most important thing is to make your set up convenient and portable. You will adjust it over time to suit your own particular needs.
