Join us at Hall’s Lake Natural Area on May 9th at 11:00 a.m. for an Amphibian Hike to celebrate Amphibian Week! Hall’s Lake Natural Area is home to various types of wetlands, making it the perfect home for many amphibian species. Often overlooked, amphibians play a vital role in the forest ecosystem. Because they have permeable skin, amphibians are also vulnerable to environmental toxins, making them important indicator species (think the canary in the coalmine). We are going to hike the trails and see how many different species we can observe, while learning fun facts about our amphibious friends!
Amphibian Week was started in 2020 by the Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (PARC) and partners to increase awareness about amphibians and to celebrate all things amphibian. It is celebrated annually the first full week of May.
