Birds, Branches & Brunch

If you missed the second annual Birds, Branches and Brunch progressive trail walk at the Hall’s Lake Natural Area on Sunday, October 12, you missed a wonderful event. The weather was perfect, the changing leaves were vibrant, and the food and drink in the natural setting was delicious. More than 60 visitors strolled ¾ mile of the more than 2 miles of paths available on the Neely, Kabana and Schaftenaar Preserves. There were four food stations along the way and other stops were made to learn about our planned deer browse research project, see evidence of a thrush nest in a rotting stump, see the donor recognition sign acknowledging the more than 200 donors who made the Hall’s Lake Natural Area a reality, and check out the porcupine tree. At the end of the walk, lots of old friends as well as several new ones mingled and socialized in the Neely Preserve parking area and plans were already being discussed for next year’s walk.
Thank you to our business supporters at Ric’s Foods, Pixie, Tim Horton’s, Meijer and Sam’s Club for the food and drink. And thank you to the dozen volunteers who pulled everything together. It was a great day to be on the trails.
