The Chippewa Watershed Conservancy (CWC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit conservation organization based in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan whose mission is to protect and restore Central Michigan’s land, water and wildlife resources to improve the quality of life for all. The CWC works within five counties of Central Michigan. The CWC owns 27 publicly-accessible nature preserves and holds 38 conservation easements on private properties across the region. We are seeking current college students for a stewardship field internship and/or a community outreach internship. These experiences may be combined for the right candidate. Stewardship Internship:
• Help build and/or maintain non-motorized trail systems
• Identify and eradicate invasive species on nature preserves using a variety of control methods
• Cultivate, train and manage volunteers for preserve stewardship work sessions
• Install wayfinding, boundary and educational signage on conservation properties
• Maintain preserves using hand and power tools
• Identify and inventory native flora and fauna
• Plan, complete, and document monitoring visits to nature preserves and conservation easements
• Other duties as assigned
Outreach Internship:
• Develop marketing and outreach materials including social media content
• Help research and lead environmental education hikes on nature preserves
• Assist with writing grants and other fundraising endeavors
• Represent the Conservancy at various outreach events
• Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will have:
• A passion for natural resource protection
• Availability to work from April/May to August/September
• Physical fitness to engage in sometimes challenging outdoor work
• Reliable personal vehicle for transportation to and from work sites
• Education related to natural resources, environmental studies, outdoor recreation, or non-profit management
Other information:
• Living stipend available for one (1) successful candidate
• Mileage paid for use of personal vehicle to conduct conservancy business
• 24 hours per week, up to 16 weeks; flexible schedule
